Dentist Laurel Composite Fillings

Laurel Family Dentist Provides Tooth-Colored Fillings for Patients of All Ages

Fillings treat decaying teeth. The dentist goes in to remove the perishing portion of your tooth so they can fill it with another substance. There are many options but the two most common materials used are composite fillings and amalgam fillings.

A composite filling material can be closely matched to the color of your teeth. These are generally used for small to medium cavities and remove less of the tooth than an amalgam filling does. Composite fillings offer good durability to smaller cavities and are ideal for treating visible teeth because of its natural look.

When can a composite filling be used for?
  • A decayed tooth (i.e. cavity)
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Decreasing the gap between teeth

 How it’s done
First, the dentist will numb the area where the filling will be placed. After, he will remove any decayed portions and apply a substance to aid in opening the pores of your teeth for a stronger bond. It is then hardened and cured with a special light. Upon completion, the filling is applied in thin layers to precisely form the filling. Once the composite hardens, the filling will be smoothed and polished to uniquely fit your bite.
